A nine-year-old Oakville boy remains in a Toronto hospital in critical condition after he was trapped, hanging on a garage door on Monday.
Halton police say the boy had been trying to enter the garage when he was hurt.
He ducked under the door and the hood of his sweatshirt became caught, police told CityNews on Tuesday.
A neighbour said the boy had knocked on her door to ask if her son could come out and play. He then ran back across the road to his house to get his bike out of the garage.
He used the keypad on the exterior of the garage to open the door and hurriedly ducked underneath, becoming trapped.
“The hoodie that he was wearing got caught up in some part of the external mechanism and that’s what pulled him up,” Sgt. Chantal Corner said.
“He was lifted right off the ground. I don’t have the specific details as to how far he was lifted up, or how long, but he was hanging…his feet were above the ground,” she added.
Many people in the neighbourhood heard him screaming and ran to help, the neighbour told CityNews. One person cut the boy’s sweatshirt and helped him to the ground while another called 911.
The boy was rushed to a local hospital and then taken to the Hospital for Sick Children, where he remains.
